Homemade Wine Tasting

Homemade Apple Wine
Vintage: 2013

"What a handsome bottle," said David Vayhinger, novice winemaker and Virginia Tech student. LOL. I helped him to pick up his winemaking supplies from Eats and got a chance to sample the final product... which was... interesting. As a friend I'm required to say that. And yes, he is sitting next to me as I write this! In all honesty, the wine was a novelty, but wasn't by any means incredibly enjoyable. We could taste some of the carbonation, meaning that it should have been boiled. It tasted strongly of apple juice and it had minimal alcohol. It wasn't very balanced and had absolutely no tannin structure and high residual sugars. We could see the yeast at the bottom of the bottle because he did not drain it, but as we learned in class, no big deal. If anything, seeing some of the ingredients made the experience more fun.
