Yellow Tail Merlot

Yellow Tail
Merlot
Australia
2010

This wine was very blah. It just wasn't exciting in any way (although that's how I feel about a lot of merlots!). It had flavors of cherry and went down with a bit of a hot finish. It made my tongue feel like I had the remnants of a shot still lingering. Wouldn't recommend.

Raven Wood Cab

Cabernet Sauvignon

This was a very nice Cab for the price. It had a bold flavor that was  clearly meant for drinking alone. It was interesting on the palate and even had some flavors of chocolate and earth/soil. The alcohol didn't bite, although it wasn't extremely smooth.

Yuck. So sweet, extremely apply. It needed more acidity and more balance. It reminded me of juicy juice. I will never drink this little guy again.

Smoking Loon Pinot Noir

This pinot noir had heavy traces of blackberry and I thought I got finishing notes of mocha. Tannin structure was unnoticeable, but it was acidic. It seemed like a 'normal' pinot noir, but I would buy it again.

Louis M Martini Cab

Louis M Martini
Cabernet Sauvignon
Sonoma County

This was one of the more expensive wines I have ever bought for myself (cut me a break, we're in a recession!). It was not like any other Cab I've ever had... it was so smooth! It had big bold blackberry and cherry flavor, but it didn't bite. It was very well balanced, not too acidic or sugary or tannic or anything else. I brought this one over to a family friend's home for Easter. So I'm very hoppy.

Smoking Loon Unoaked Chard

"Vibrant flavors of green apple and lemon with a crisp, refreshing finish"

This was my first chardonnay that I actually took note of the unoaked-ness. It was very interesting and was much more crisp and refreshing that with oak. It reminded me of apples and summertime. The oak just seems to make sense with winter.

"Combo of cherry, boysenberry, plum and chocolate flavors. Raised right, it's well rounded with mild tannings"

I could taste the cherry in the beginning and it finished very smooth. It didn't seem very well balanced. It needed more acidity.
